Our client is a family-owned lumber business who has successfully weathered the storms (literal and figurative) of the last 50 years. They have mills across the west coast of North America and pride themselves on being stable, respectful members of the communities they serve. As they continue to grow, they are seeking an inspired Human Resources Manager to oversee their British Columbia operations, based out of Burns Lake, BC.

Les tâches

  • Develop, implement, and monitor HR strategies and initiatives to achieve organizational goals.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for employee and management relations.
  • Manage the recruitment and employee development processes, including hiring, training, appraisals, grievances, and termination.
  • Actively provide support and motivation to engage employees and increase performance.
  • Participate in planning and business development as it relates to the HR department.
  • Carry out reporting and communications activities with upper management.
  • Maintain employee information, pay plan, and benefits program while adhering to privacy standards.
  • Oversee and implement the yearly safety program.
  • Ensure legal compliance and bet practices throughout human resources and safety management.
  • Carry out additional tasks which contribute to the success of this position.

Exigences du poste

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or relevant education is essential.
  • CPHR title is an asset.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in the sawmill / forestry or any other relevant manufacturing working environment.
  • This is a union environment, so experience with this type of arrangement is essential.
  • Proficient in HRIS software, reporting tools, metrics, databases – there are many and you understand when and how to use each.
  • You aren’t a lawyer, but you do possess an impressive knowledge of employment standard act, Labor and Safety law.
