Do you hold a 3rd or 4th Class Operating Engineer certificate and want to put your experience to work in a food production environment? Are you comfortable operating industrial boilers, monitoring operating parameters and working with utility systems?
Our client, a Canadian company in the food industry, is currently looking for 3rd and 4th Class Operating Engineers to join its maintenance and utilities team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating and monitoring the boilers and the plant’s various utility systems. You will help identify operational issues, perform first-line troubleshooting and maintain equipment in compliance with established safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
Tasks
Operate industrial boilers and related utility systems in accordance with established operating parameters.
Monitor pressure, temperature, water levels, fuel consumption and other data required for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.
Conduct inspection rounds of boilers, pumps, valves, piping, measuring instruments, control systems and related equipment.
Perform boiler water treatment checks and required testing, and make the necessary adjustments.
Respond to alarms, unusual fluctuations and situations that could affect equipment operation.
Diagnose mechanical and operational issues, perform authorized troubleshooting and communicate repair requirements to the maintenance team.
Work closely with the maintenance and production teams during service calls to minimize operational downtime.
Complete scheduled inspections and maintenance activities under the preventive maintenance program for assigned equipment.
Follow lockout/tagout procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all applicable health and safety requirements.
Participate in inspections, testing and required work on boilers and utility systems in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Record operating parameters, completed interventions and all required information in the appropriate logs and documentation.
Maintain the boiler room and surrounding areas in the condition required for safe and efficient equipment operation.
Perform any other related duties.

Job requirements
Valid TSSA 3rd or 4th Class Operating Engineer certificate.
An equivalent certificate issued by another Canadian province may be considered, subject to the applicable recognition requirements in Ontario.
At least 5 years of experience working with industrial boilers for 3rd Class candidates.
At least 3 years of experience working with industrial boilers for 4th Class candidates.
Experience operating and monitoring boilers in an industrial environment.
Knowledge of steam and hot water systems, pumps, valves, pressure controls and auxiliary boiler equipment.
Knowledge of boiler water treatment and chemical testing is considered an asset.
Experience in the food, dairy, pharmaceutical or another production environment is considered an asset.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and identify operating abnormalities.
Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, operating procedures and technical documentation.
Ability to work independently and respond effectively to situations requiring immediate action.
Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and applicable industrial health and safety requirements.
Availability to work rotating 12-hour day and night shifts. Salary: 3rd Class: $26.50 to $45.00 per hour. 4th Class: $26.50 to $35.00 per hour.
