Our client, a manufacturing company specializing in the fabrication and processing of metal components, is currently seeking CNC Programmers for its facility located in Montreal’s West Island. More than one position is available. We are specifically looking for a CNC Programmer with experience programming laser cutting and press brake equipment, as well as a Senior CNC Programmer specialized in laser cutting and laser/punch combination machines. Do you have strong analytical skills, enjoy turning technical drawings into efficient manufacturing processes, and constantly look for ways to optimize material usage and production time? Whether you have several years of CNC programming experience or advanced expertise in laser cutting and combination equipment, this opportunity will allow you to apply your technical knowledge in a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment.

Tasks

  • Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing files to prepare jobs for production.
  • Review and prepare the technical files required for programming and ensure all necessary information is complete and accurate.
  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for equipment related to your area of expertise, including laser cutting machines, laser/punch combination equipment, and press brakes.
  • Prepare nesting layouts to optimize sheet metal utilization and reduce material waste.
  • Determine manufacturing sequences, cutting or bending parameters, work methods, and appropriate tooling.
  • Consider material type, thickness, production quantities, tolerances, and finishing requirements when programming.
  • Prepare setup information and work instructions to support production operators.
  • Collaborate with operators during machine setups, first-piece inspections, and required production adjustments.
  • Analyze machine performance results and make necessary program corrections to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain and update CNC programs, tooling data, and production-related documentation.
  • Identify potential manufacturing issues before production begins and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • For the senior profile, share expertise, support technical troubleshooting, and contribute to improving manufacturing and programming methods, reducing production times, and optimizing material utilization.
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

Job requirements

  • Technical training in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Drafting, Metal Fabrication, Machining, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Relevant CNC programming experience in a metal fabrication or metal processing environment.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience programming laser cutting machines, CNC punch presses, or combination equipment for the senior-level position.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM programming and CNC nesting software.
  • Ability to work with various technical file formats, including DXF, DWG, STEP, and PDF.
  • Excellent ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, tolerances, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Knowledge of materials commonly used in metal manufacturing and their characteristics.
  • Ability to determine appropriate machine parameters, tooling, and manufacturing sequences.
  • Strong analytical skills, autonomy, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a production environment.
  • Functional bilingualism in French and English to communicate with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
