Do you understand the realities of working on a construction site and know how to turn drawings, specifications and quantity takeoffs into a well-prepared bid? Are you comfortable assessing work methods, labour requirements, materials and subcontracting needs for industrial construction projects?
Our client, an industrial construction contractor located in Boucherville, is looking for an experienced estimator to join its team. You will prepare lump-sum and budget estimates for multidisciplinary projects involving industrial mechanical work, boilermaking, structural steel, welding and piping. Working closely with site supervision teams and other project stakeholders, you will develop accurate cost estimates and execution strategies tailored to the requirements of each project.
Tasks
Analyze calls for tenders, drawings, specifications and technical requirements.
Identify pricing requirements and obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
Prepare lump-sum and budget estimates for industrial construction projects.
Perform quantity takeoffs and estimate costs related to materials, labour, equipment rental and subcontracting.
Prepare detailed work takeoffs to determine workloads and labour-hour requirements.
Gather and validate the information required to prepare bids.
Assess the work methods best suited to each construction site.
Develop execution strategies based on work shifts, project timelines and supervision requirements.
Conduct site visits to validate the information used in project estimates.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and anticipate constraints that could affect project execution.
Respond to technical questions from project stakeholders during the bidding and execution stages.
Participate in coordination meetings.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and clients.
Perform any other related duties.

Job requirements
College diploma, vocational diploma in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of experience in estimating, project management or a related position.
At least 10 years of experience working on construction sites.
Strong understanding of industrial mechanical work, boilermaking, structural steel, welding and piping trades.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of applicable building codes, the CCQ collective agreement and construction materials.
Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
Availability to travel occasionally to construction sites within a radius of up to 250 km.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several estimates or project files simultaneously.
Ability to collaborate effectively with site teams, suppliers, subcontractors and clients.
Functional English to read and interpret technical documents from certain international suppliers, representing approximately 30% of the role.
