Our client, a company operating in the road transportation industry in Contrecoeur, is looking to welcome an Operations Manager capable of ensuring the smooth execution of daily activities. The successful candidate will play a central role in coordinating drivers, planning transportation activities, and maintaining a reliable and efficient fleet. We are looking for a resourceful, organized, and solution-oriented individual who understands the realities of the transportation industry and is ready to be actively involved in operations.
This is a hands-on operational role that requires both coordination skills and a willingness to get involved in day-to-day activities. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in an environment where they may transition from transportation planning and mechanical follow-up to customer interactions and operating a Class 1 truck when required.
Tasks
Supervise the mechanical team and organize the required interventions to minimize vehicle downtime.
Establish maintenance priorities and ensure trucks and equipment are available to meet operational needs.
Manage the procurement of parts and materials while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and external repair shops.
Keep maintenance records up to date and monitor work performed on vehicles.
Respond to mechanical issues occurring outside company facilities and coordinate the appropriate solutions.
Organize daily driver assignments while considering orders, availability, and transportation constraints.
Prepare routes and adjust schedules according to changing operational requirements and customer requests.
Monitor transportation activities and reorganize operations when delays, emergencies, or unexpected changes occur.
Maintain ongoing communication with drivers to facilitate the coordination of shipments and deliveries.
Ensure the efficient use of vehicles and a balanced distribution of work.
Handle communications with customers regarding orders, confirmations, follow-ups, and problem situations.
Act as the liaison between customers, drivers, and internal resources to quickly identify and implement appropriate solutions.
Participate directly in transportation operations when workload demands it, including temporarily replacing a driver when necessary.
Move vehicles for inspections, maintenance appointments, or repairs as required.
Perform any other related duties.

Job requirements
Hold a valid Class 1 driver's licence.
Have relevant experience in the road transportation industry; experience in bulk transportation will be considered an asset.
Have previous experience in dispatching or driver coordination and be familiar with managing a heavy vehicle fleet.
Knowledge of heavy truck mechanics or experience supervising a mechanical shop is considered an asset.
Be proficient in both French and English to communicate effectively with customers and partners approximately 50% of the time.
Understand the operation of heavy trucks and equipment used in road transportation.
Be able to plan, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and quickly adjust to changing circumstances.
Demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to mobilize people toward operational objectives.
Show initiative, autonomy, and sound judgment in problem-solving situations.
Be comfortable in an environment where unexpected situations are part of daily operations.
Possess strong customer service skills and excellent communication abilities.
Be willing to perform practical, hands-on tasks in the field as required by the business.
