Our client, a company specializing in sheet metal fabrication, is currently seeking a Senior Laser/Combination Machine Programmer. This position is intended for an experienced professional who can optimize CNC programming, support machine operators, and contribute to the continuous improvement of production methods on laser cutting and combination laser/punch machines.

Tasks

  • Create, review, and optimize CNC programs for laser cutting and combination laser/punch machines;
  • Prepare nesting layouts, lead-ins and lead-outs, micro-joints, cutting sequences, and part removal methods;
  • Verify technical files, drawings, tolerances, materials, thicknesses, and finishing requirements;
  • Select the most efficient cutting parameters, tooling, and manufacturing methods based on equipment capabilities;
  • Anticipate and prevent production issues such as collisions, part movement, tipping, or insufficient clearance;
  • Prepare clear setup instructions for operators and provide support during first-piece production runs and troubleshooting activities;
  • Analyze production results to improve cycle times, quality, material utilization, and programming standards;
  • Train and mentor junior programmers while participating in continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

Job requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience programming CNC laser machines, punch presses, or combination laser/punch machines;
  • Strong experience programming sheet metal components in a manufacturing environment;
  • Excellent ability to read and interpret blueprints, tolerances, specifications, and manufacturing requirements;
  • Experience with CAD/CAM and CNC nesting software;
  • Solid knowledge of laser cutting, punching, forming processes, cutting parameters, and tooling;
  • Ability to work with DXF, DWG, STEP, PDF, and other technical documents;
  • Experience working with steel, stainless steel, and aluminum;
  • Functional proficiency in both French and English in order to communicate with employees, customers, and suppliers approximately 30% of the time.
