Our client is a well-established chamber of commerce located on the Island of Montreal, known for its dynamism and commitment to local economic development. It plays a key role in fostering business growth, creating opportunities for strategic networking, and representing the interests of the business community to decision-makers. To ensure the continuity of its activities and support its mission, we are seeking a General Manager. This person will be responsible for leading all operations of the organization, overseeing both strategic and operational management, engaging members around shared issues, and ensuring sound financial management as well as the implementation of impactful projects. Tasks

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the mission and objectives of the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Lead the organization in identifying emerging trends, opportunities and challenges impacting businesses in the region.
  • Oversee all aspects of member recruitment, engagement and retention.
  • Cultivate relationships with businesses, community leaders and key stakeholders to grow and diversify the Chamber's membership base.
  • Serve as the primary advocate for the business community, representing the interests of Chamber members at the local, provincial and federal levels.
  • Collaborate with government officials and other stakeholders to advocate for policies that promote a favorable environment for business and economic growth.
  • Develop and manage the Chamber's annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue generation, partnerships, sponsorships and fundraising to support the organization's programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee the development, execution and marketing of programs, events, educational sessions and initiatives that add value to Chamber members and support their business growth objectives.
  • Collaborate with staff, committees and volunteers to deliver high quality programs and services.
  • Perform any related tasks.

Job requirements

  • Studies in business administration, economics, public administration or a related field.
  • Perfectly bilingual to effectively communicate with English-speaking team members 40% of the time.
  • Proven experience in leadership roles, preferably within a chamber of commerce, business association, economic development organization or similar entity.
  • Proven success in strategic planning, membership development, advocacy and financial management.

Desired profile

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including business leaders, elected officials and community partners.
  • Understanding of local, state and federal government processes and regulations impacting businesses.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
