Our client is a dynamic company, specialized in the manufacturing of welded mechanical parts, located in the Quebec City region. The company stands out for its commitment to integrity and inventiveness. As part of its growth, it is seeking an Estimator to join its team.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Estimator’s main responsibility will be to analyze tender requests and provide cost estimates for welded mechanical parts, while working closely with the production, engineering, and quality departments.
Tasks
Analyze technical plans and drawings to understand manufacturing requirements.
Break down assemblies into sub-assemblies to evaluate each necessary operation (cutting, bending, welding, etc.).
Estimate manufacturing costs (labor, materials, subcontracting) for each step of the process.
Collaborate with suppliers to obtain up-to-date pricing for the required materials.
Validate estimates with the production and engineering departments to ensure feasibility.
Prepare and submit detailed quotes to clients within deadlines, while respecting the company’s profit margins.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the estimation process by integrating new technologies and optimizing cost models.
Perform any other related tasks.

Job requirements
Degree in mechanical engineering, metal fabrication, or a related field.
2 to 5 years of experience in cost estimation or a similar role, with the ability to quickly learn the specifics of welded mechanical parts or metal structures.
Knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including cutting, welding, and machining, or a willingness and ability to quickly learn these processes.
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and ERP/MRP systems is an asset, but not required.
Excellent ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Strong computer skills and comfort with using specialized software.
Effective communication in both French and English (intermediate level, approximately 50% of the time communicating with clients outside of Quebec), both written and spoken.
