You are recognized for your ability to keep a building and its equipment in optimal condition, while mobilizing a technical team and providing flawless operational support? You enjoy balancing preventive maintenance, emergencies, improvement projects, and compliance (OHS, fire safety, hygiene)? This position is for you. Our partner, a well-established 4-star hotel located on the South Shore of Montreal, featuring close to 200 rooms, food and beverage outlets, as well as meeting and event spaces, is seeking a Director of Maintenance. The selected candidate will oversee the maintenance team, ensure the reliability of facilities, compliance and site safety, and the sustainability of equipment, while optimizing operating costs.

Tasks

  • Structure, plan, and deploy the preventive maintenance program to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Coordinate and supervise corrective maintenance based on operational priorities (guest rooms, common areas, food and beverage, events).
  • Lead, coach, and mobilize the maintenance team (recruitment, work organization, coaching, training, performance follow-up).
  • Develop and present training plans, including OHS practices and safety standards.
  • Improve, lead, and support the OHS committee, and participate in other internal committees as required.
  • Manage external partners related to the maintenance department (coordination, quality of execution, compliance, timelines, contract follow-up, and cost control).
  • Ensure proper operation of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and general facilities.
  • Oversee the maintenance and continuous improvement of guest rooms and common areas, in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Respond to technical needs of departments, including basic support for certain IT and audiovisual equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections, document findings, and maintain compliance (fire safety, hygiene, environmental and applicable standards).
  • Develop, update, and enforce maintenance policies and procedures to maintain high standards.
  • Manage the maintenance budget, analyze costs, and recommend optimization initiatives, including energy efficiency.
  • Be available to intervene during emergencies or major situations.
  • Perform any other related duties and manage projects as required.

Job requirements

  • DEP in a relevant field (building maintenance, building mechanics, electromechanics, or related training).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical maintenance, including relevant team management experience.
  • Experience in a hotel environment or a similar service setting (hospitals, retirement residences, real estate, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, and general maintenance (plumbing, ventilation, carpentry, etc.).
  • Comfortable with computer tools; familiarity with audiovisual equipment and technologies supporting operations.
  • Availability to respond to emergencies and travel as required, based on an on-call system and/or delegation during time off.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and to respond quickly in unforeseen situations.
  • Engaging leadership style, autonomy, initiative, rigor, and strong team spirit.
